Sam Mollel, TAMIDA chairman
Six Tanzanian mining firms have confirmed to take part in the 54th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair to be held in Bangkok, capital of Thailand from Feb. 25 to March 1, 2014.

This was revealed on Wednesday in Arusha by Anthony Peter Brooke, vice president of Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA), after he signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tanzania Mineral Dealers Association (Tamida). The two associations agreed to share information on various issues related to mining including technology and marketing.

Brooke said there are about six mineral companies, which have already shown interest in taking part in this important global fair.

The TGJTA leader welcomed other Tanzanian mineral dealers to take part in the fair, which is expected to bring on board over 30, 000 exhibitors from across the world.

He said for the next mineral fair in Bangkok, Tanzania has been given two booths in a bid to make the East African country promote its minerals to the world.
"This is an important area for Tanzania to showcase its mineral resources," he said.

Mining industry in Tanzania has a bright future to its people, Brooke said, adding that Tanzania remains an African hub of gems and jewelry minerals.
"But, Tanzanian government should continue supporting small-scale miners so that they get into sustainable mining," he suggested.

"To me, I see this is as a great opportunity for Tanzania to market its mineral resources outside the world," said Sam Mollel, the TMDA chairman.
