KRA surpasses Q1 revenue targe


 

Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner General John Njiraini. Kenya Revenue Authority has surpassed revenue collection target for the first quarter to record Sh228.4 billion against Sh224.8 billion despite sluggish economic growth.

“Revenue collection this year is strong across board compared to last year when we started from a weaker position. We have seen reversal of this and for Value Added Tax there is strong growth due to reforms,” Mr Njiraini said.

Kenya Revenue Authority has surpassed revenue collection target for the first quarter to record Sh228.4 billion against Sh224.8 billion despite sluggish economic growth.

The government collected Sh168.9billion for the first quarter of the last financial year.

The Commissioner General, John Njiraini said the growth was a result of reforms that the tax collector has initiated coupled with growth in various sectors.

The target for revenue collection this year is Sh973.5billion out of which Sh912.3billion is exchequer revenue and Sh61.2billion is agency revenue (fee paid for collection of revenue on behalf of other government entities).

“Revenue collection this year is strong across board compared to last year when we started from a weaker position. We have seen reversal of this and for Value Added Tax there is strong growth due to reforms,” Mr Njiraini said.
