Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs has announced that Nairobi will establish an embassy in Dakar, Senegal within the shortest possible time.

Ms Amina Mohammed said the setting up of the embassy will be preceded by a state visit of Senegal's President Macky Sall to Kenya.

She made the revelations after a meeting with President Sall at his Presidential Palace office.

Speaking on Senegal’s national television on Monday evening, the Ms Mohammed said bilateral issues and the development agenda were the main focus of their discussion which lasted nearly one hour.

She said she seized the opportunity to extend President Uhuru Kenyatta’s invitation to the Senegalese leader.

“President Sall accepted the invitation with pleasure because he (Sall) is very popular back at home (Kenya) and very soon we will announce the dates for the visit,” she said

Ms Mohammed said President Sall’s visit will be an opportunity for the two leaders to examine bilateral cooperation in depth particularly on trade and economic development.

She expressed hope that a Senegalese embassy would also be opened in Nairobi, adding, “it will further strengthen contacts already facilitated by the Kenyan Airways”.
