Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka
has called for the merger of Cord affiliate parties ahead of the 2017
general elections.
Kalonzo said his party will propose the merger in the forthcoming Wiper party delegates conference.
The conference will be held later in October or early November.
Kalonzo said this in Kibwezi where he led over 12 Wiper National Assembly and Senate members to campaign for the The Independent Party (TIP) leader Kalembe Ndile who is a candidate in the Kibwezi West parliamentary by-election.
Kalonzo urged the leaders present to prepare themselves for grassroots leadership so that the can further strengthen the party.
"We want leaders at the grassroots level who are loyal to the party's ideals and manifesto so as to render services to party members," Kalonzo said.
"We seriously want to restructure our party to make it more vibrant," he added.
Kalonzo asked Kibwezi residents to overwhelmingly elect Ndile to Parliament.
Kalonzo's sentiments were echoed by the Wiper Chairman David Musila who said the community needed vibrant leaders in parliament to defend what is "rightfully theirs."
"For fifty years our roads network has deteriorated yet as a community we have served in all the three governments loyally," added Musila.
Makueni senator
Mutula Kilonzo Junior challenged the Jubilee government to thoroughly
investigate the Westgate terror attack and punish those who may have
failed in their duties.
Other leader present drummed up
support for Ndile's election saying he was a dependable leader who had
stood for the community's interests.
