Eldoret accident death toll rises to eight

The death toll from Monday evening Eldoret-Webuye highway accident that claimed six lives and left three others nursing serious injuries has increased to eight after two more people died while undergoing treatment.

Six people died on the spot in the grisly accident after their Toyota Salon car collided head on with an oncoming truck.

According to the police, two out of the three who were admitted at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret succumbed to injuries on Monday night with one still in critical condition.
The two included a mother and her child.
According to eye witnesses, the car had nine occupants.

Eldoret West Base Commander Humphrey Abayi said the accident occurred at around 6pm.
The ill-fated car was heading to Eldoret from Webuye .
The accident as the car was trying to overtake a bus along the busy highway that is still under construction.
