Nairobi Security Exchange on Tuesday awarded students from higher learning institutions across the country in its investment challenge, ushering them into the securities market.
Speaking during the awarding ceremony at Kenyatta University, the Vice Chancellor of the institution Ms Olive Mugenda said the investment challenge seeks to provide quality of life among the youth by providing financial literacy.
NSE chairman Mr Eddy Njoroge said the initiative seeks to empower the students by increasing access and understanding of information on securities markets. The objectives of the NSE investment challenge is to enhance risk management among the youth, encourage saving culture and teach about the risks involved in stocks and bonds. Three students were awarded with Sh25,000, Sh75,000 and 100,000 each on condition that they invest the money in the stock market.
The competition is an annual online activity that happens around trading securities for three months.
Participants each gets Sh2 million virtual start-up capital and access live data from the bourse.
