Nyamira County Assembly members have rejected a list of chief officers appointed by the governor.
On
Wednesday, the members sent back the list of appointees to Governor
John Nyagarama it did not represent the face of the county and lacked
gender balance.
A heated debate had ensued when the names were presented at the County Assembly morning session.
Magombo
Ward representative Ezra Ontiri was adamant there was no need to debate
on the list and accused the governor of ignoring the Constitution.
There was confusion when the Assembly members realised that the governor had submitted two lists.
The first list had two names of women appointees while the second one had three.
EXCHANGED WORDS
Assembly Speaker Peter Kingoina forwarded both lists to Majority Leader Beauttah Omanga for tabling in the House.
There was a bitter exchange of words among members with some proposing direct vetting and others opposing saying that the Appointment Committee should take up the task.
Mr Bonface Ombori (Bosamaro) accused the governor of “short-changing the people of Nyamira County by revising a list that was already in the public domain.”
The governor had last Friday released the first list of his appointees to journalists.
