An MP who led demonstrators in dumping a body at the doorstep of Nyanza regional commissioner’s office last week is being sought by Kisumu police.

Police want Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor to record a statement over the incident.

“We are not taking the act lightly because it was tantamount to interfering with a dead person’s peace,” said the Kisumu County CID commandant Mr David Cheruyiot.

Nyakach Police boss Dismas Wanjala said action needed to be taken against the MP over the incident.

“He (Mr Owuor) went to the hospital where the body was kept and requested it be released to him as he was taking it to a mortuary in Kisumu only to dump it at the PC’s office in Kisumu,” said Mr Wanjala.
Mr Awuor is also expected to record a statement over his alleged role in last Thursday's incident where demonstrators caused a stir at the Kisumu law courts.

The demonstrators, among them members of the Kisumu County Assembly, marched to the law courts demanding for the release of Mr Awuor’s driver Joshua Kwach.

Mr Kwach had been arrested after allegedly causing the suspension of a mobile court session at the Molem area along the Kisumu-Nairobi highway.

The Kisumu CID boss however did not specify when the MP would be summoned to record the statement.
A charge sheet seen by the Nation at the CID office indicated that the MP faces a charge of attempting to rescue a person who is under police custody.

Speaking at a Kisumu hotel on Saturday, Mr Owuor who is a first-time MP said he was forced to take dump the body at the PC's office because he had held several meetings with the security agents over cattle rustling in his constituency but little had been done to address the issue .
“The man’s family thought bringing the body to the police post was the only way to drive the point home,” Mr Owuor said.
