Message of hope and comfort from the president; you are not alone at this time

President Uhuru Kenyatta addressing the nation following the terror attack on innocent Kenyans at the Westgate Mall in Westlands. With the president are the Director of NSIS Director Gen Gachangi (left) and the Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku.   NATION MEDIA GROUP

In Summary
All the acts of sacrifice and valour, the incredible displays of generosity and of the innate nobility of our hearts have this manifest intention: to extend comfort to the bereaved; wipe away the tears of mothers, wives and sisters; ease the pain in the hearts of fathers, husbands and brothers; reassure sons and daughters.

I call on all Kenyans to honour the fallen by being vigilant, conscientious and patriotic. Although we have many friends the world over, we also have deadly, evil enemies.
Even greater than building monuments, our Nation must treasure our fallen brothers and sisters their eternal legacy to us: hope, unity, communion, brotherhood and freedom.

I write to the communities which have lost valued members and families, which have been robbed of their loved ones by the tragic incident at the Westgate Mall.

Please know that the people of Kenya grieve very deeply with you and share your sorrow. There is nothing we can do to physically return the departed to our midst. Yet there is much we can do as a national family to honour their memory.

Their lives were precious to many people in many ways, and their death, equally is a loss that many feel keenly. Even though they died too soon, they did not live in vain.

Our nation has done its utmost to channel its love and sympathy to you.

It is important that you know you are not alone in this. Please take comfort in the promise that our love and unity will endure, and that there will be justice and accountability for the evil that was visited on us.

SUPPORT THE BEREAVED

Together, we will hold the hands of the bereaved and injured, and support them fully until they heal from their wounds.

I call on all Kenyans to honour the fallen by being vigilant, conscientious and patriotic. Although we have many friends the world over, we also have deadly, evil enemies.

This requires us to heighten dedication and professionalism in service. Ultimately, it is our fidelity to our values that will vanquish our enemies and increase our friends.

All the people who have died at the hands of our enemies will not, and must not be forgotten. Many of them embraced the danger and sacrifice of confronting the enemy. As many are victims of cowardice and depravity.

Without a doubt, their sacrifice is insuperable, and must never be forgotten.

Even greater than building monuments, our Nation must treasure our fallen brothers and sisters their eternal legacy to us: hope, unity, communion, brotherhood and freedom.

May their souls rest in perfect peace.

May God grant you strength and courage to bear your loss.

PRESIDENT UHURU KENYATTA, EGH
