Crown Paints has introduced a new paint in the market designed to reduce the risk of fire in buildings.
The new paint, known as Crown Timonox, is designed to make buildings resistant to sudden fires. The paint is applied as a coating on interior surfaces, slowing down fires.
The firm’s chief executive officer, Mr Rakesh Rao, said the new paint, which has been introduced at a time of escalating fire incidents, is set to reduce risks of fires spreading in buildings.
“Fire poses a
major risk to our customers’ assets. We are bringing to the Kenyan
market a unique coating solution that enhances our customers’ ability to
protect valuable assets,” Mr Rao, said in a statement.
The
most recent fire incident occurred at the Jomo Kenyatta International
Airport where a huge inferno gutted the international arrivals’ section.
The paint is designed as a defence against the spread of flames fuelled by flammable ingredients in most paints.
It is applied as a thin coat on walls and ceilings even in the presence of several coats of paint.
Multiple
layers of paint constitute a significant fire hazard hence the need to
minimize the potential for ignition both for solvent or water-based
conventional paint coatings.
“Improving the flame
fighting ability of a surface makes it not only safe for human
habitation but also minimizes the environmental damage linked to
solvent-based paints,” Mr. Rao noted.
