Fanisi Venture Capital Fund has acquired a Sh261 million stake in
a local pharmacy chain.
The pharmacy, Haltons Ltd, operates four outlets in Nairobi but it seeks to expand its portfolio to more than 100 outlets over the next two years.
Fanisi Capital managing partner Ayisi Makatiani said the capital injection will enable Haltons to scale up its business.
“The partnership with Fanisi will provide the impetus needed to take Haltons through this growth path, establishing itself as a strong chain of branded pharmacies,” he said.
Haltons becomes the second firm in the country to be bought into by Fanisi after acquiring a stake in the Hillcrest International Schools in 2011.
The venture capital fund also bought a stake in Sophar Ltd, a Rwanda-based pharmaceutical wholesaler earlier in the year as it seeks to fund start-ups and small businesses in East Africa.
