Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has said the over 5,000 City Hall workers will not be sacked as earlier indicated.

They will instead be redeployed to the National Government, he said on Wednesday.

‘‘Only 6000  qualified workers match the current jobs that are available meaning there is still a surplus of 5,000 workers who are unqualified yet they hold jobs,’’ Dr Kidero said.

He was speaking during the official launch of a course in Trade Unionism at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu.

According to him, their productivity will improve when they are transferred to new stations.

GENERATE MONEY

Cotu boss Francis Atwoli had condemned the governor’s decision saying there are other strategic ways of generating money in Nairobi.

“Nairobi has many business opportunities and the governor only needs to introduce good policies to compel the business community to remit taxes,” he said.

The county governments, he said, must create employment opportunities to boost security and spur economic growth instead of sacking its workers

Mr Atwoli blamed the shortfall in revenue on companies that do not pay taxes and urged Dr Kidero to crack down on them.
