TIC, private sector seek to strengthen Thai links

 
Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) has reiterated its resolve to strengthen trade relations between Thailand and Tanzania for mutual benefits


TIC executive director Juliet Kairuki told journalists in Dar es Salaam recently that her agency was ready to help and facilitate Thai investors seeking investment opportunities in Tanzania to succeed. She noted that Tanzania stands out in the region as the best investment destination.

She said that Thailand is well experienced and possesses the right technology in cutting and polishing raw minerals, so they can invest in industries related to that profession in the country in that area. “This will help add value to our minerals before exporting them, and create a win-win situation for all parties,” she said. She mentioned other areas of cooperation as tourism, infrastructure development, agriculture and energy.

Tanzania Private Sector Foundation boss Godfrey Simbeye said local businessmen were ready to cooperate with their Thai counterparts.

He urged locals to use the opportunity to network and start joint ventures so as to gain experience and expand capital. in the private sector. While in the country, Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra launched the Thai-Africa Initiative which aims at enhancing partnership between Thailand and Africa, as well as providing the building block for a wider Asia-Africa link. She said that the Initiative will help generate greater momentum for closer cooperation between Asia and Africa, which is currently two important driving forces of the world economy.

“It will strive to enhance engagement between the two sides on a wide range of common interest in the spirit of South-South cooperation,” she said.

She said that given similarity of development experiences of Thailand and African countries, her country will step up her development cooperation with Africa on areas of common interest such as public health, agriculture, education and human resources development.

The Thai Premier was in the country for a Thailand-Tanzania Forum where she was accompanied by a delegation of business community and other government officials.
