KENYA: KCB has signed a sponsorship deal worth Sh3 million with the Kenya Primary Schools Headteachers Association (Kepsha) for the 9th primary schools headteachers’ conference to be held in Mombasa.
The conference, which begins this weekend, will bring together
12,000 heads of primary schools and will be officially opened on Tuesday
by President
Uhuru Kenyatta.
KCB is a major disbursing bank for Free Primary Education funds.
“Our branch network and the vast reach across all counties gives us the positioning to help the government reach the entire country with accessible financial services,” said KCB MD Samuel Makome.
“We want to empower our customers at the grassroots level to see that they diversify sources of income, hence our partnership with Kepsha in areas that can add value to what the organisation is doing.”
Branch network
The government has also utilised KCB’s branch network to disburse teachers’ salaries for years.
From the last audited accounts, KCB is the most profitable bank in the country, with a large chunk of the money going back to the government, which then ploughs it back to support various public services.
“Since independence, KCB has been able to reach far-flung parts of the country that no other bank could reach, and today we see their continued support in helping institutions finance development,” said Kepsha Chairman Joseph Karuga.
Speaking during the handing over of a dummy cheque at Kencom house, Mr Karuga added that Kepsha was planning to engage in micro enterprises to generate income.
