Court drops inciting case against legislator

Mtwara. The Mtwara Resident Magistrate’s Court has dismissed a case against Mtwara Urban legislator Hasnein Murji, who was being accused of inciting chaos in the town.

Mr Murji was accused of motivating Mtwara residents to engage in violent protests against the government plan to transport gas discovered in the region to Dar es Salaam.


The decision was reached yesterday after an advocate for the accused, Mr Peter Kibatala, asked the to court to dismiss the case filed on 3 July, this year, arguing that the charges against his client were baseless.
Mr Murji was for the first time arreigned facing incitement charges allegedly commited on 19 January at Ligula in Mtwara.


Senior Resident Magistrate Dynes Lyimo, dismissed the case and freed Mr Murji, thus concurring with the defendant’s side.
Meanwhile, CUF leaders Katani Ahmed Katani and Said Kulaga appeared in the same court facing three charges of conspiracy, incitement and triggering bad behavirour among residents in the region.
