Kampala
Police have arrested a former National Social Security Fund (NSSF) staff for alleged impersonation and soliciting of Shs1.5 million purportedly to assist a Fund member access his retirement entitlements.

The suspect was arrested at the Ministry of ICT head offices in Kampala after allegedly getting the money from the member who, by then, had already raised the issue with the Fund management.

According to the deputy police spokesperson, Mr Vicent Ssekate, the operation was led by the police CID—Anti Corruption Department. The suspect was later taken to Special Investigation Unit (SIU) in Kireka where he is being detained as inquiries continue.

It is understood that this may not be a unique case, but in an attempt to protect the image of the Fund, the management says it will apply the full extent of the law to clamp down on such criminal tendencies.

Meanwhile, three people pretending to be Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) workers were last week arrested and detained at Kawempe Police for allegedly demanding Shs5 million from a factory in Kawempe-Maganjo.

The allegedly threatened the proprietor with closure of the firm if he did not heed to their demands. According to UNBS deputy spokesperson Sylvia Kirabo, they had turned up at a maize factory.
