Uganda’s market capitalisation lowest in EA

Investors’ high returns and a good macro-economic environment have led to growth of capital market capitalisation in East Africa to $26 billion.

African Alliance, one of the largest investment banks/asset managers in Africa said capital markets investors across the region get higher returns in equity and fixed income instruments than in other parts of the world.

The African Alliance Asset Management chief investment officer –East Africa, Mr Barack Obatsa, said there are 84 companies quoted on the four stock exchanges: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. “The total market capitalisation for East African markets is about 26 billion with Kenyan market constituting the largest percentage followed by Tanzania and Uganda,” he said.

Market capitalisation by country shows that Kenya has 75 per cent, Tanzania 21 per cent and Uganda 4 per cent.
