In Summary
The payments were halted last year to allow Public Service clean up its payroll system.

Kampala.
The Ministry of Finance has lifted a ban on the payment of pension gratuity, five months since the payments by the Ministry of Public Service were frozen.

The ban had been slapped in November last year to enable Public Service clean up the pension payment payroll.
This comes at a time when Finance has come up with a system to help reduce payment of ghost pensioners and increase accountability on liability.

The spokesperson in the Ministry of Public Service, Mr Jonas Tumwine, said Finance had set up a new internal Audit system to help in accountability and thorough screening of the eligible pensioners.

The new system has so far seen the disbursement of Shs6.7 billion gratuity payments which had earlier been planned for April last year. Those who have been paid include teachers, traditional civil servants and ex- gratia.
