The government has reaffirmed its commitments to build vocational training collages in all districts saying, negotiation to secure a USD4.7m (over 115bn/-) loan from African Development Bank (AfDB) are going-on well.
Education and Vocation Training deputy minister Philip Mulugo made the assurance in the House yesterday while responding to question asked by Dr Lucy Nkya (Morogoro-South, CCM).

Nonetheless, the deputy minister said the government has already identified 400 schools (two in each district) to become function schools.

“In the first phase, the government plans to build Veta-colleges in 28 districts, one of which will be in Morogoro-Rural,” he said, advising people in the area to make use of the nearby colleges of Dakawa, Mikumi and Kihonda.

Explaining how ordinary secondary schools can acquire a license for advanced level education combinations, Mulugo said a school needs to have fully-equipped learning classrooms, equipped science laboratories, hostels and a dining hall, books and enough teachers.

He advised Morogoro-Rural District Council to evaluate one of its schools and equip it with all the required items to enable to it have a license to enroll high school students.

His clarification followed a question by a legislator who had wanted to know the procedures of setting up an Advanced Level school.

Dr Nkya had however requested the government to explain on the whether there are initiatives to set up a Veta college in Morogoro-Rural District.

Last year, Ministry for Education and Vocation Training directed Veta and Nacte to expand training to Level Three in order to offset the shortage of technicians in the country.

“The government will continue to set aside funds and improve vocational training colleges including equipping them with adequate learning and teaching materials,” deputy minister Mulugo asserted.
