Tanganyika Planting Company Limited
and Moshi University College of Cooperatives and Business Studies
(Muccobs), all of Kilimanjaro were on Wednesday picked best performers
among firms that timely remit workers’ monthly contributions to the
Parastatal Pension Fund (PPF).
In the competition, Tanzania Breweries
Limited (TBL) and Tanzania Tobacco Processors Limited, a leading tobacco
processing company in the country based in Morogoro Region were also
picked the first and second winning firms for Industry and Trade
category respectively.
The winning firms were awarded
certificates of participation and trophies at the 20th PPF members
conference held in Arusha and flagged-off by the Permanent Secretary in
the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Ramadhani Khijjah.
Speaking shortly after receiving the
awards, TTPL Group Human Resources Manager Dorica Wanzagi, commended the
PPF management for the award, disclosing that teamwork spirit among the
firm’s staff and recognition of workers value were the reasons for the
timely submission of workers contributions.
“We remit workers’ contributions on time
because we believe that their welfare is the secret behind the company’s
success,” she noted.
She noted that for a company to be
acknowledged by a national big pension firm like PPF among other
employers in the country, it calls for “self-commitment and discipline
among the workers, a spirit which in turn leads to more production.
In his opening speech, Khijjah called on
both government and private employers to inculcate the culture of
submiting employees’ pension contributions on time to avoid unnecessary
disturbance to retired persons.
While employees dedicate most of their
time and energy to build firms and employers, Kijjah said some employers
are still reluctant to submit their contributions to pension funds on
time.
He said under normal circumstances the failures have lead to inability by pension funds to pay the retirees their dues in time.
“For quite a long time, we have
registered endless complaints from retired persons over delays caused by
their employers in the payment of their pensions, and I think this is
not fair,” said Khijja.
Welcoming the PPF management team,
workers and clients for the joint efforts they made last year, the
Deputy PPF Board Chairman, Dr Kassim Kapalata, insisted on the need to
be prompt in submitting workers’ contribution for the Pension Fund to
accomplish the set targets.
A total of 22 winners received their
awards in ten different categories including Agriculture, Mining,
Transport and Communication, Finance, Health, Construction, Media,
Education and Training.
