LAPF drags ten districts to court over pension contribution default

The Local Authorities Pensions Fund
(LAPF) has filed cases against ten district councils for failing to
remit their members’ contributions amounting to 2.5bn/-.
The decision by LAPF comes after efforts to request district councils to submit the contributions failed.
The LAPF Zonal Acting Manager, Amina
Kassim said the fund was obliged to take such action after exhausting
all efforts including educating, advising and directing employers on the
importance of submitting contributions in time.
She said majority of employers seemed to
either ignore or refuse to implement the directives which were against
laws that established LAPF Number 9 of 2006. The Acting manager named
the district councils in question as Tunduru (180,693,922), Rungwe
(102,452,968), Ileje (173,392,426) and Mbeya city council (240,596,656).
Others are Iringa municipal council
(492,693,490), Kilolo (160,198,961), Iringa district council
(321,700,934), Njombe district council (289,075,216), Makete
(191,974,834) and Ludewa district council (271,930,258).
