Artcaffé will maintain the Dormans brand after
acquiring coffee shops owned by the rival restaurant. The two coffee
shops Monday confirmed the deal after the Business Dailybroke the buyout story.
“The joint venture project, will involve the
acquisition and management by Artcaffé of specific Dormans Coffee
Houses, which will continue trading as Dormans,” said a statement
quoting Sagi Vaknin, Artcaffé managing director and Jeremy Block, the
majority shareholder of C. Dormans Ltd.
Artcaffé has already acquired four outlets at
Village Market, Karen, Junction Mall and Wilson Airport in Nairobi and
is yet to complete talks for four other outlets with franchise holders
and landlords.
The move to maintain the Dormans brand is a
strategy to secure the lower middle class market while Artcaffé targets
its core upper middle class segment.
Mr Vaknin announced that the firm plans to open
parallel Artcaffé and Dormans coffee shops at The Oval, a commercial
complex along Ring Road, Parklands opposite Westgate Mall in the city.
