Thousands took to the streets on Sunday to compete in the 11th edition of the 2013 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon which took place on a newly-designed course.
Kenneth Mungara won the men's 42km main with Winfridah Kwamboka winning the women's 42km event.
In the 21km race, Solomon Mutahi of Uganda won the men's category with Koretti Jepkoech finishing first in the women's.
Amos Kiplomo won the 10km men's race.
The event drew an elite field off 555 athletes for the men’s marathon with 152 runners entering the women’s event.
A total of 18,327 participants registered to take part in the various categories; full (42km) and half marathon (21km) men and women’s races, men and women’s 10km, wheelchair race (men and women) and the 5km family fun run.
The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is part of nine marathons sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank across the world: Mumbai, Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Jersey, Falkland Islands and Kuala Lumpur.
The events were flagged off by Nairobi governor Evans Kidero.
