House team to prepare report on JSC

A National Assembly committee has said it will go ahead and prepare a report on the removal of six members of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) from office after they failed to honour summons to appear before the committee.

The Justice and Legal Affairs committee also declined to hold a meeting with former Judiciary Chief Registrar Gladys Shollei and lawyer Paul Muite.

The latter had presented himself on behalf of the summoned JSC members, while Ms Shollei honoured summons she received before her sacking but the committee said she will send any information she might have regarding the office through a memorandum to the Clerk of the National Assembly since she no longer holds the Chief Registrar’s position.

The committee had summoned Mr Ahmednasir Abdullahi, Rev Samuel Kobia, Prof Christine Mango, Justice Mohammed Warsame, Ms Emily Ominde and Ms Florence Mwangangi, individually, to respond to a petition filed by Mr Nicholas Mugambi Riungu, who accuses them of gross professional misconduct and incompetence.

The petitioner wants Parliament to have them removed from office, arguing they had violated the Constitution.
