Sombre atmosphere grips Dar as multitudes bid farewell to Lowassa’s body

DAR ES SALAAM: A sombre mood engulfed the city of Dar es Salaam on Tuesday as the

casket of former Prime Minister Edward Lowassa arrived at Karimjee grounds for the state funeral.

Vice President Dr Phillip Mpango led government officials and wananchi who gathered at the venue to pay their last respects to the fallen political figure, who took his last breath on Saturday at the age of 70.

It was the best opportunity for the city’s residents to bid farewell to the man who has left behind a lasting legacy that will be remembered forever.

A military motorcade carrying his casket slowly traveled through the different streets of the commercial city to Karimjee Ground, where the congregation was held.

Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, was among other key government figures who arrived at the venue to pay their last respects to the fallen politician.
