Mwigulu Commends GGML for fostering positive connections in the mining sector

DODOMA: Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Mwigulu, has indicated that the

good relationship between Government and Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has contributed to the development of the national economy, especially in terms of tax collection, employment and purchase of goods and services from within the country.

He stated that GGML, who have been valuable stakeholders in the mining sector, have continued to promote the mining industry and make significant contributions to the community and the nation.

Dr. Mwigulu made this statement during Gillian Doran’s visit to Dodoma last week. Gillian Doran is the Chief Financial Officer of AngloGold Ashanti, which owns the Geita Gold Mine (GGM).

During the visit, Dr Mwigulu said, “As the Ministry of Finance, we have had a very good relationship with GGML, especially on tax and economic matters.

Dr. Mwigulu said, “GGML has been a very important stakeholder in terms of tax issues and in terms of promoting the economy of our country”. He also mentioned that GGML has maintained good relations with the mining sector and other ministries.

AngloGold Ashanti’s Chief Financial Officer, Ms Gillian Doran (c) paid a courtesy visit to the Finance & Planning Minister, Dr Mwigulu Nchemba in Dodoma on Wednesday .She was  accompanied by her Company’s senior leadership team. During her visit, she briefed the Minister on AGA’s long-term plans for Tanzania.

Furthermore, he stated that GGML has established itself as an outstanding mining operation with positive community relations in the area by effectively executing the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.

He also urged the company to utilise domestic gold refineries to further bolster the national economy.

During the discussion, Gillian Doran, the Chief Financial Officer of AngloGold Ashanti Company (AGA), along with the company’s management team, shared with Dr Mwigulu AngloGold Ashanti’s long-term plans for Tanzania.

In recognition of GGML’s continued status as one of the leading taxpayers in the extractive industry in the country, she thanked Dr. Mwigulu for their contribution.
