Tanzania to join African Mining Investment Conference

DAR ES SALAAM: FOR the first time in history, Tanzania will participate in the African Mining Investment Conference scheduled for February 5th to

8th this year in Cape Town, South Africa.

According to the statement issued by the Ministry for Minerals Communication Unit and the conference (Mining Indaba) will bring together about 900 investors, 40 sectoral institutions, and approximately 1,000 executives from large companies from across the world.

“The conference, scheduled for February 5th to 8th, 2024, in Cape Town, will serve as an important platform for the participating countries to build and strengthen relationships and business networks in the mining sector,” noted in the statement.

It further read that the event provides a unique opportunity to seek investors, capital, technology, partnerships, trade, share experiences, and learn about the sustainable management and development of Africa’s mining industry.

Tanzania will participate in the event with the theme “Advancing mining investment to accelerate prosperity.” The theme is consistent with the government’s efforts to improve the geological understanding of the country by encouraging increased mineral exploration and mining.

Currently, the government has launched “Vision 2030,” which aims to facilitate more geoscientific surveys to uncover the country’s mineral potential.

Additionally, Tanzania will concentrate its efforts at the conference on promoting investment opportunities in the mining sector, including exploration, extraction, and value-added activities.

Furthermore, the government expects to meet with various potential stakeholders from various countries, which is an important development for promoting the country’s investment and business opportunities in the mining industry.

According to the statement, for the first time, the government has collaborated with the Tanzania Chamber of Mines as well as other private sectors to facilitate the mining sector’s participation in the conference.

Since its inception in 1994, Mining Indaba has grown from a small conference to one of the most highly anticipated events in the industry, welcoming mining professionals from all over the world.

The event is solely dedicated to the successful capitalisation and development of mining interests in Africa, with a unique and widening perspective of the African mining industry, from connecting mining companies with leading investors to providing a platform for important industry discussions, supporting the long-term economic and sustainable growth across the continent.

It continues to support education, career development, sustainable development, and other important causes in Africa.

Each year, Mining Indaba makes a significant impact on the regional and wider economy of South Africa, where in last year, Mining Indaba increased GDP in South Africa by R248 million (with 80 per cent coming from international sources), generated 323 full-time annual job equivalents in the country and increased national taxes by R30 million.

In this year, Mining Indaba will celebrate its 30th anniversary to honour how far the industry has come and discover what the future holds for Africa’s mining industry.
