Dar es Salaam. Power generation at the newly constructed Julius Nyerere Hydropower dam Project is
merely 2.49 meters away, based on the current water depth, Energy minister January Makamba has revealed.According to him by May 23, 2023,
the dam's water depth has reached 160.51 meters above sea level, however, to
initiate electricity generation, the water level has to reach a minimum of 163
meters above sea level.
Mr Makamba said, “ The water filling
process is continueing according to the plan where to May 23, 2023 the water
level has reached 11.8 billion cubic meters equal to 39.3 percent of the
maximum level which is 30 billion cubic meters.”
Tabling the ministry budget for
2023/2024 the minister said the project has so far reached 86.89 percent and,
when completed, will generate 2,115 megawatts of power.
