Ghanaian president decries Africa’s inability to create jobs, wealth

The Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has described the inability to transform the abundant natural resources into opportunities for job creation and wealth as the biggest challenge of Africa.
Akufo-Addo made the remark in a message to the annual lecture and presidential luncheon of the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria (MAN) in Lago

The theme of the event was “Mainstreaming policies to catalyze industrial renaissance.”
Represented by a Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, the president said the continent boasts of young, determined and highly educated people across all sectors, yet has not been able to get the right mix of policies to fully unearth and develop the entrepreneurial talents that abound in Nigeria in particular and on the continent.
He said “This is the bane that we need to fix. It can be done for it is not a rocket science to ensure a well-balanced and thought through policy-mix to mainstream industrialization in Africa.”
Earlier, the President of MAN, Dr. Frank Udemba Jacobs, commended the federal government for withholding its assent to the Economic Partnership Agreement and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area.
Jacobs however said manufacturers are not against any agreement that will facilitate intra-African trade, particularly where Africans stand to benefit.
