THE
Mbeya Regional Commissioner, Amos Makalla has hailed Vodacom Tanzania
for championing revolution in mobile money services which has made life
easier for Tanzanians.
Speaking
at an event to mark M-Pesa 10th Anniversary, he said improved mobile
money services has made it cheaper and easier to send and receive money
enabling people to make real-time money transactions which has profound
impact on the people and households in managing money.
He
said improved mobile money services had also eased tax and levy
payments to the government and other public utilities and opened a
connection to the financial system for people previously excluded.
The
RC showered the praises during an event where Vodacom Tanzania through
its mobile money service, M-Pesa, was dishing out prizes to customers
and agents as it celebrates its 10th Anniversary in the market.
Available
statistics by the Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA)
indicate that M-Pesa commands the lion share in mobile money services
with 42 per cent of the market share.
The
RC praised the company for recognising contribution of customers and
agents for its success and eventually providing them with prizes.
As
it celebrates the anniversary, the company has launched a promotion
campaign where 10 vehicles are up for grab every month in addition to
cash prizes every week.
“What
you are doing is in line with the vision of the government in improving
the welfare of Tanzania through various avenues,” he stated.
Speaking
at the occasion, Vodacom Tanzania’s Communications Manager, Ms
Jacqueline Materu, urged customers to continue using M-Pesa to be in the
position to scoop the prizes.
Ms
Materu explained that the dishing of awards in Mbeya was part of the
company’s drive to recognize contribution of its customers and agents.
