EMPHASIS placed by the government in revenue collection will enable implementation of major projects through own sources of funding in the country.
The Deputy Minister of Works, Transport
and Communications (Works sector), Mr Elias Kwandikwa made the statement
during his tour of Terminal Three at the Julius Nyerere International
Air port (JNIA) construction site in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
“Construction work of Phase II of the
project is implemented by funds from domestic revenue sources in
partnership with other stakeholders...It is a clear sign that in the
near future, similar projects will be implemented through our own
sources of funding,” noted Mr Kwandika.
He observed that the current project
status is at 66 per cent, and its completion is expected by September
next year. He further revealed that the contractor, Bam International
Company, has received payment of implementing the project, citing that
his ministry will grant necessary benefits on time.
Mr Kwandika said he carried out a
similar visit at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) and was
very impressed with the implementation. The Project Supervisor, Mr
Barton Komba confirmed having disbursed all payments to the contractor,
saying that therefore nothing should stop them from carrying out their
work in good order.
“We expect that the project will be
completed at the targeted time, and with the nature of the
infrastructure in progress, people with special needs are going to
receive improved treatment,” said Mr Komba.
