AMREF Health Africa Tanzania and Bank M are organising what they call a ‘Stand up for African Mothers’ charity walk in Dar es Salaam tomorrow with the theme “More Midwives for Safe Delivery.”
The Stand up for African Mothers (SU4AM)
programme has been running for the past seven years with the major aim
of training more midwives for safe delivery. Vice-President Samia Suluhu
will be leading a four-km walk which will start and finish at the Green
Grounds Oyster Bay.

Director Dr. Florence Temu says “The Stand Up for African Mothers” was a
global event launched in October 2011 to draw attention to the plight
of African mothers and to mobilise citizens worldwide to support African
mothers get basic medical care during pregnancy and childbirth.
During FY 2017/18 and 2018/19 the
programme aims to raise a minimum of 300m/- to support training of a
total of 400 nurse students that shall include midwifery Certificate
level as well as upgrading midwifery course at Diploma level.
This will eventually contribute towards
the reduction of maternal and child mortality in Africa. Let us Stand up
for African Mothers; contribute 25,000/- or more that will directly
support the training of midwives.
