Korea plans energy centre in Arusha

ANNE ROBI
THE government of South Korea is planning to open a centre for renewable energy technology at Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology in Arusha with the aim of developing energy solutions in the country.

Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals Dr Juliana Pallangyo, made the revelation in Dar es Salaam yesterday when addressing the 2016 Korea- Tanzania Energy and Environment Cooperation Forum.
“Korean people will open a centre that will provide studies and solutions on providing sustainable energy,” she said, adding that the centre is scheduled for earlier next year.
In another development, South Korea has also planned to invest in the field of energy and environment in two areas, namely affordable and clean energy and climate action...a move that has been highly welcomed by the government.
Commenting on the investment, Dr Pallangyo said that the investments are major areas that are important in realising Tanzania’s Development Vision 2025. “I am sure that Korea will provide an opportunity to explore more areas of future bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and environment in Tanzania,” Dr Pallangyo said, adding that the government is responsible to provide the overall leadership to facilitate the investment.
She said the Korean investment on energy is vital as the government focuses on increasing access to modern energy services and increasing the share of renewable energies in electricity generation to enhance availability, reliability and security supply. She said that Koreans are invited to participate and cooperate in the development of the energy sector in the country.
On the other hand, Dr Pallangyo said the one-day forum aimed at facilitating provision of useful understandings toward implementing energy techniques in the country.
The Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic Korea, Song Geum-Young said the investment aims at increasing the bilateral ties between Tanzania and Korea for better future of the citizens. Korea is the leading country in the field of Green Energy.
