Mrema wants drug users to serve outside prisons

PAROLE Board Chairman, Mr Augustine Mrema, has written to the President asking to change drug users’ from imprisonment to outside sentences as they seriously need medical attention.

The Chairman told journalists that drug users are better-off serving outside sentences which would enable them to attend or put under rehabilitation facilities.

Mr Mrema, has proposed that magistrates should use alternative sentence instead of sending drug users behind the bar.

He said he wrote to the president after meeting with the drug user’s inmates recently.
