The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the
Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Vocational Training, Dr
Leonard Akwilapo, said in the city that the two-day event would cement
the bilateral relations between China and Tanzania.
“This demonstrates good relations
enjoyed between China and Tanzania for a long time. We have historical
ties with China,” said the Deputy Permanent Secretary shortly after
opening the event organised jointly by the Confucius Institute of UDSM
and Chinese Business Chamber.
According to Chairman of Chinese
Business Chamber, Mr Janson Huang, there are over 500 Chinese companies
investing in the country and that the companies have created more than
150,00 jobs.
“The great growth of investment by
Chinese companies is a testament of good relations between the people of
China and Tanzania,” he observed.
The UDSM Deputy Vice- Chancellor
responsible for research, Prof Cuthbert Kimambo, said every year an ever
increasing number of young men and women graduate from higher learning
institutions but he said the unemployment has become an issue of
critical importance.
“I urge the young educated Tanzanians
who will join Chinese companies and firms as employees to take full
advantage of the opportunity to learn from co-workers and supervisor to
acquire skills and technological know-how,” he said.
The Political Councilor from the Chinese
Embassy, Mr Zhang Biao, said the event would act as a bridge to link
Chinese companies and Tanzanian graduates, saying it was a unique
platform that would fully utilise the human resource sector of Tanzania.
