Budget carrier Jambojet is set to launch a second flight to Lamu
and Malindi in August as it looks to take advantage of growing
passenger numbers.
Chief executive Willem
Hondius said they will acquire another plane to enable them to offer the
morning and afternoon flights. The airline currently has four planes.
Jambojet,
a subsidiary of the national carrier Kenya Airways, was launched two
years ago and has so far transported just over one million passengers to
the seven destinations it flies to.
“The introduction of a morning and afternoon flight means that you can travel up and down in one day,” Mr Hondius said.
“We
have seen a growth in the passenger numbers in this route and expect
this to even grow higher once travel advisories issued by some western
nations are lifted.”
Mr Hondius was speaking during the opening of the airline’s Lamu office.
He
added that a lot of small and medium enterprises keen to keep their
costs down are flying with them and that the morning and afternoon
flights would help them complete their transactions in a day.
Early this year, Jambojet was granted licences to various regional destinations.
