MINISTER of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Mr George Simbachawene, yesterday led hundreds of mourners in Dar es Salaam during the burial of Njombe District Commissioner, Ms Sarah Dumba, who died on Monday evening.
The burial ceremony was also attended by
Njombe Regional Commissioner, Dr Rehema Nchimbi, former Speaker of the
National Assembly, Ms Anna Makinda, several District Commissioners and
other retired senior government officials.
Mr Simbachawene said the late Ms Dumba
was an exemplary leader, adding that the country has lost a committed
leader who used all her ability to serve the people.
“Her death shocked even the president
and wished to join the family in this funeral but failed due to other
official duties in Zanzibar.
I’m sure on the coming list of new
District Commissioners, her name could have been included because of
dedication to serve Tanzanians,” he said.
Mr Simbachawene said Ms Dumba’s
contribution to the welfare of Tanzania would be greatly remembered.
Njombe Regional Commissioner Dr Nchimbi described the former DC as hard
working, charming, friendly, honest and loving and that Njombe Region
and the nation at large would miss her leadership.
“She was my adviser and served the
people of Njombe diligently, and was committed in everything she did,”
she said. She said up to her last moment, the late Ms Dumba was
performing her duties diligently.
“She woke up on Monday as a healthy
person and held meetings with District Administrative Secretary and
District Cultural Officer and gave them directives to solve various
problems facing the district,” Dr Nchimbi said.
Ms Dumba was born in 1956 and had her
primary education at Kigamboni Primary School and Zanaki Secondary
School respectively before becoming a radio broadcaster at the Radio
Tanzania Dar es Salaam, now Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation.
She was appointed Kilindi District
Commissioner in 2006 before being transferred to Njombe district. Until
her death, she was the chairperson of all District Commissioners in
Njombe Region
