THE Kagera Regional Commissioner (RC) Major Gen (rtd) Salim Mustapha Kijuu, has urged residents in the region to join the Community Health Fund (CHF), in order to enjoy services provided by the firm.
Mr Kijuu made the appeal yesterday
morning when he visited Muleba District to inspect various projects
being implemented with assistance from Tanzania Social Action Fund
(TASAF). He noted that to date a total of 67,669 households in 506
villages in the region were registered under TASAF.
He noted that the households enjoyed a
range of benefits including free health services, education to their
children and employment. “More efforts should be made to ensure that
more households are registered under the Fund. District commissioners
should closely supervise the exercise,” he said.
Muleba District Commissioner Francis
Isaac informed the RC that a total of 15,063 households in 109 villages
in Muleba District were registered and benefitted through TASAF
assistance.
Fifty villages were in Muleba North
Constituency while 59 villages were in Muleba South. Households from 57
villages had not been identified.
A total of 2,881,117,386/- has disbursed
to the households, he said. While at Muleba town, Gen Kijuu oversaw an
exercise of destroying various illegal fishing gear including 10,756
monofilaments, 192 beach seines (kokoro), 7,538 metres of seine ropes,
161 fishing boats and 1,688 kgs of fish all worth 1,261,231,280/-.
The illegal fishing gear was impounded
within a period of three months. He reminded residents in the region to
ensure that illegal fishing is jointly controlled, and directed Village
Chairpersons to lead the war because they were nearer to the people and
knew their daily activities.
Mr Kijuu also visited Buhaya and Kabale
villages where he met several beneficiaries from TASAF funds including
women and children from poor households.
Ms Oliva Shuzari (27) a widow from
Kabale village informed the RC that through the TASAF fund she was able
to construct a decent house with burnt bricks.
