PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Sunday received 55,000 USD (119.35m/-) being support from Huawei Technologies for the construction of a dispensary and medical officer’s house in Nandagala village, Ruangwa District in Lindi region.
Apart from the financial support,
telecom firm also donated 25 desktop computers and 26 UPS’s to be
distributed to five secondary schools in the district.
Speaking in the public meeting in the
village on Sunday Huawei’s Managing Director, Bruce Zhang said the
company has provided the assistance, in a move to assist the
government’s goal of constructing a dispensary for every village and in
every ward.
Meanwhile a mobile phone service
provider, Halotel, also gave Premier Majaliwa 9m/- to assist him in
registering and paying for families that cannot afford to join Community
Health Fund (CHF).
Premier Majaliwa is also the Member of
Parliament of Ruangwa constituency. Commenting on the support, the prime
minister expressed his appreciation and said the contribution will
support 900 homesteads, noting that more than 5,000 people will benefit.
Halotel company has put up 59 telephone towers in Lindi region, out of
which 40 are operational and 22 out of the 40 provide 3G services.
Expressing appreciation for the donation
from Halotel, Mr Majaliwa said the CHF money will be divided and
benefit 90 villages in Ruangwa districts and 10 homesteads of six
people. He said the telephone towers built in the districts were crucial
in connecting people through their mobile phones.
The Premier also thanked Huawei
Technologies for the generous assistance, which he said will ensure the
public in the district access health service without walking long
distances.
The Prime Minister said he plans to put
up solar power systems in all primary and secondary schools and
dispensaries in Ruangwa District. Ruangwa District has 82 primary
schools, 15 secondary schools and 28 health centres and dispensaries.
