THE East Africa Community Presidents have extended the chairmanship of Tanzania for another year as they accept a new member—South Sudan.
The outgoing Chair, President John
Magufuli, said his colleagues have forced him to extend the tenure a
move which did not please him but accepted anyway.
“One thing which did not please me was
to extend the tenure; I wanted to have more time to deal with my local
politics. “I am three month old in my presidency…but I have accepted,”
Mr Magufuli said.
On other hand Burundi takes the secretary general position for the next five years.
The East Africa Community chairmanship is rotation and it was supposed to go to Burundi.
Also the community appointed Tanzania
former president Benjamin Mkapa as the facilitator for the Burundi peace
talks as a catalyst to speed up things along side President Yoweri
Museveni of Uganda.
