FORMER Prime Minister, Mr Mizengo Pinda, has urged NMB Bank to extend its services to rural areas to reach more people including smallholder farmers, fishermen and pastoral communities.
“It is high time now NMB goes on
monetary research in rural areas and extend their services to help the
government attain its goal of moving financial services closer to the
people,’’ she said.
Speaking at the inauguration of NMB Bank
branch in Sumbawanga municipality, Mr Pinda encouraged residents in the
region to use an opportunity to boost their economic activities and
improve the welfare of their families.
Former Premier said achievements made by
NMB was a testimony that the opportunities established by financial
services were many and still had a greater chance to expand services to
more people especially in rural areas.
“In the rural areas where NMB has
majority of clients including farmers and pastoralists where people have
huge amount of money that is kept in insecure places because they lack
proper financial services,’’ added Mr Pinda.
According to the NMB Big clients and
government Chief Officer, Mr Richard Makungwa, the bank has 175
branches, 700 ATMs and over 2m customers. Mr Makungwa said the bank has
improved its services by establishing business centres in big cities
including Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Morogoro and Mbeya.
He further said that during 2014/15
financial year NMB donated desks valued over 40m/- to Ndua, Namanyere,
Mkangale, Isunta, Msakila, Mkapa , Matai B, Chemchem and Kankwale
