Pinda appeals for more banks in rural areas

FORMER Prime Minister, Mr Mizengo Pinda, has urged NMB Bank to extend its services to rural areas to reach more people including smallholder farmers, fishermen and pastoral communities.

“It is high time now NMB goes on monetary research in rural areas and extend their services to help the government attain its goal of moving financial services closer to the people,’’ she said.
Speaking at the inauguration of NMB Bank branch in Sumbawanga municipality, Mr Pinda encouraged residents in the region to use an opportunity to boost their economic activities and improve the welfare of their families.
Former Premier said achievements made by NMB was a testimony that the opportunities established by financial services were many and still had a greater chance to expand services to more people especially in rural areas.
“In the rural areas where NMB has majority of clients including farmers and pastoralists where people have huge amount of money that is kept in insecure places because they lack proper financial services,’’ added Mr Pinda.
According to the NMB Big clients and government Chief Officer, Mr Richard Makungwa, the bank has 175 branches, 700 ATMs and over 2m customers. Mr Makungwa said the bank has improved its services by establishing business centres in big cities including Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Morogoro and Mbeya.
He further said that during 2014/15 financial year NMB donated desks valued over 40m/- to Ndua, Namanyere, Mkangale, Isunta, Msakila, Mkapa , Matai B, Chemchem and Kankwale primary schools in Rukwa Region.
