Bajaj targets 40pc market share by introduction of new brand

BAJAJ Auto Ltd, an Indian two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturing company, is targeting to expand its motorcycle market share in Tanzania from current 22 per cent to 40 per cent come 2017 after introducing a new brand.
The new Boxer 100 ES motorbike with engine 100cc was launched at the weekend with a pledge to conduct country-wide campaign that will boost its market. Bajaj sells its motorbikes in Tanzania through authorized dealers and they are assembled in the country.
The company said its business has been growing by about 70 per cent per year in the past few years.
“The launch of Boxer 100 ES is a strong demonstration of Bajaj’s commitment to the Tanzania market. Now, Boxer will be available in two models of 100cc and that of 150cc engine options,” said Bajaj senior vice president (Africa), Mr K.S. Grihapathy.
“Bajaj growth has been a fantastic journey and a great achievement in Tanzania. I remember we were selling about 100 items per month in 2012 but currently we sell around 2,500 per month.
With this new edition which is about 20 per cent fuel efficient, we wish to take our business to the next level,” he added. He said the potential market demand was huge in Tanzania than in Kenya and that they were ready to tap the potential.
The launch of the new motorbike was officiated at a colourful ceremony attended by Bajaj officials, dealers from different regions of Tanzania and other partners.
