To be confined to the Isles, modern rice seeds production projects are to be conducted as support for Tanzania‘s efforts for food security, President Jakaya Kikwete was assured earlier this week.

Making the pledge at the State House, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General, Yakuya Amano, said the IAEA will continue to offer its support especially in the agriculture sector.

According to a press statement from the Directorate of Presidential Communications issued to the media yesterday in Dar es Salaam.
He told the president that IAEA will among other things also help the country with expertise on modern fruits and vegetables preservation methods over long periods of time.

Responding, President Kikwete expressed gratitude for this and other assistance that IAEA has given and continues to give to Tanzanian institutions particularly the Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) and Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA).

The president said food security is a priority area for the country and any support towards that end is vital and highly appreciated.
