Political differences between Meru Governor Peter Munya and MPs from the region continued at the weekend after seven legislators and the county women representative skipped a forum for the devolved unit at Safari Park Hotel.

Only MPs Gideon Mwiti (Imenti Central) and Boniface Kinoti Gatobu (Buuri), and Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi turned up for the stakeholders meeting.
Mr Murungi said the county government was ready to move on without the politicians who had boycotted the forum.

“We all met in Meru last year and agreed that we meet here for this forum. They have not come because of political differences with the governor. Those of us who are here are ready to move on,” said the senator.

He said he had tried his best to bring the leaders together but his efforts seemed not to be yielding results.

“If we continue with politics, we will undermine development in Meru. We don’t want politics of hatred anymore,” said Mr Murungi.

Mr Munya, on his part, said he is determined to make Meru a better investment place by creating a conducive environment.

“We removed kiosks and have identified areas where they will be located but politicians are inciting our people to protest. Some have gone further to hire people to protest but we are determined to move on,” said the governor.

At the same time, Two TNA MPs have denied claims there is a plot to impeach Mr Munya.
Mr Joseph m’Eruaki (Igembe North) and Mr Kathuri Murungi (Imenti South) dismissed sentiments attributed to Imenti North MP Rahim Dawood that area MPs were working on a plan to have Mr Munya recalled. Mr Munya belongs to the Alliance Party of Kenya.

“We have not met as MPs to discuss that issue. We are not privy to such a scheme and cannot be part of that kind of thing without proper consultation with Meru people,” said Mr m’Eruaki in Mutuati in his constituency.
