Travel agents have voted Kenya the top
Safari destination in the world, boosting confidence in the local
tourism industry amid growing competition from other players in the
region.
In a statement released Monday, the Kenya
Tourism Board (KTB) announced that Kenya had been voted as the world’s
leading Safari destination by travel agents during the World Travel
Awards in Qatar.
“The Award has raised the brand equity
of the country following the successful implementation of the
diversification agenda and adoption of new promotion strategies,” KTB
managing director Muriithi Ndegwa said.
The government
and the private sector have been investing in marketing and diversifying
Kenya’s tourism products amid growing competition.
A
three-day hot air balloon festival to be hosted in the Maasai Mara game
reserve from Friday, is expected to feed into these on-going efforts.
Organised
by Prestige Travel in partnership with Brussels Airlines and Kempinski
Hotels, the event is geared at promoting hot air balloons as an
eco-friendly alternative to view wildlife.
“Different balloon safari companies will be on site to showcase their products,” a statement from the organisers read.
