Lagos. CRDB Bank PLC scooped four awards in the 5th Africa
Procurement and Supply Chain Awards (APSCA) held in Lagos, Nigeria yesterday.
A statement released by the bank
said the institution won award on excellence in procurement innovation (banking
category) out of 83 entries submitted this year.
It also emerged as the organisation
with the best procurement team (banking), with its two leaders scooping awards.
The bank’s Group Managing Director
and CEO, Mr Abdulmajid Nsekela became the best CEO supporting procurement and
Mr Pendason Philemon, the bank’s Director of Procurement, was recognised as
amongst the African top 50 procurement and supply chain leaders.
Receiving the award on behalf of Mr
Nsekela, Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Benson Bana said it was
enthralling to see the bank scooping a number of international awards.
Congratulating the Bank’s management
and staff and its two leaders who have been recognized and awarded the highest
trophies in procurement, Dr Bana said, “This is an honour to all Tanzanians.”
“CRDB Bank PLC has made all of us
(Tanzanians) proud and this reveals how the bank is supporting President
Samia’s (Suluhu Hassan) agenda of reopening the country to attract more
investors and create businesses. The country is now being heard in Nigeria and
Africa in general as the best in procurement,” he said.
The Africa Procurement and Supply
Chain Awards (APSCA) recognizes leading procurement experts, teams and top
procurement and supply chain organizations, whose outstanding leadership and
practices have raised the profession’s standards.
The organisations must have as well
showcased top ethics, best practices, tact and brilliance in managing
organisations’ supplies as well as promoting business growth and sustainability
in Africa.
Commenting on the awards, Mr
Philemon said every year, the APSCA celebrates organisations excelling in
procurement and supply chain management in Africa and this time, CRDB Bank
participated for the first time and managed to scoop the most awards.
“It was a thrilling moment to be
mentioned four times in this event gathering hundreds of fellow procurement
professionals. It was CRDB Bank and MTN Nigeria who were called four times
each,” he explained.
“It was a very proud and happy
moment to showcase that excellence practiced in Tanzania can be recognized and
hailed continent-wide,” he added.
Another awardee, Mr Nsekela said
procurement and supply chain management was much more than just moving goods or
services from vendors to customers, but a complex role within any organisation.
“Procurement function is very
important and key for the bank without which the bank cannot offer services
well to its customers and its contribution to the bottom line cannot be
understated; it’s very important in managing business costs,” he noted.
