Ethiopian Airlines
Aviation Group has inaugurated a $15 million catering facility that
increases its daily inflight production from 36,000 to 100,000 servings.
The facility is under the Ethiopian Catering, one of the seven business wings of the aviation group.
We are delighted about yet another
remarkable and historic milestone, by inaugurating the state-of-the art
inflight catering facility, which is the largest in Africa, said Mr
Tewolde Gebre Mariam, the group CEO at the weekend inauguration
ceremony.
Critical engine
“Aviation is a vital and critical engine of socio economic development,” he said.
Ethiopian Catering currently provides inflight services for more than 240 daily flights.
It also extends its services to Ethiopian customer airlines to Addis Ababa.
Strategic partnership
Ethiopian
Catering also plans to open other facilities in Africa following its
strategic partnership with other airlines, according to the CEO.
Built on
10,500 meter squares within the Bole International Airport, the new
facility will, for the first time, also prepare the national dish - injera – a flat spongy bread made from local grain - teff.
The new facility will also enable Ethiopian to introduce Italian, Chinese, Indian, Ottoman and Halal dishes to its passengers.
Tough times
Last year,
Ethiopian with its network airlines, transported 7.6 million people to
94 destinations using its 82 modern airplanes, according to Mr Tewolde.
“We have been
serving the continent in good and tough times for Africa,” the CEO
noted, adding Ethiopian was also completing the construction of the
largest cargo terminal in Africa with an annual goods handling capacity
of 600,000 tons.

currently implementing a 15-year strategic plan – Vision 2025, with a
view to becoming the leading aviation group on the continent
