The
National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is among seven public pension funds
showcasing pension products at the Dar Es Salaam International Trade fair
(DITF) in Dar es Salaam, to attract more local and international trade goers in
the country. Rwandan President Paul Kagame is expected in Dar es Salaam on July
1 as a guest of honour to open the 40th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair
(DITF)
The
chief public relations and marketing Ms Eunice Chiume stated that, NSSF has
planned to take full advantage of the 40th Nyerere International Trade Fair
which is taking place at the Mwalimu J.K.Nyerere Trade Fair Grounds to educate
the trade fair goers on the objectives, functions and benefits offered by the
fund to the insured members and their families.
NSSF, the leading social security provider in Tanzania, last
year scooped the Best Overall Exhibitor award at the 39th DITF that took place
between June 28, 2015 and July 8, 2015 at Mwalimu Nyerere International Trade
Fair Grounds. It is located along Kilwa Road, 8 km South of Dar es Salaam.
The
International Trade Fair, organised annually by the Tanzania Trade
Development Authority (TanTrade)
provides an occasion for exploring investment opportunities in the country
while supporting and promoting local manufacturers and service providers.
Speaking
to Business Times, Eunice explained that apart from providing such public
education, NSSF would use this opportunity to register new members from both
small scale farmers and small scale miners on the spot so as to enable them to
enjoy short term and long term benefits such as health care, employment injury
and occupation diseases, funeral grant, maternity and invalid pension,
survivors pension, and old age pension respectively, including SACCOS loan and loans for affordable house.
She
said that NSSF trained and customer oriented staff will also help its members
to get their account statements regarding remittance of their monthly
contributions.
“A
member of NSSF scheme will have an access to her/his contributions and personal
reports by either sending a short message service (SMS) through 15747 via
mobile phone instantly,” Eunice said.
NSSF
has established an automated call center to connect its members and other
stakeholders through mobile phone SMS service to enable them access
contributions balances on mobile phones, and detailed statements online from
the Fund, also to communicate directly with the Fund’s appropriate departments.
NSSF
has attracted multi-billion investments which had contributed to Tanzania’s
fast growing economy. She explained that, a part of registering new members and
collection of members’ contributions, NSSF invests in various economic
ventures.
“NSSF
is looking at implementation of member-oriented projects, undertaking
agriculture based projects with the priority on value added projects, implement
job creating investments, extending loans to VICOBA through Micro Financing
Enterprises and Construction of more affordable houses for sale with priority
given to members” she noted.
Eunice
said that, in its efforts to reach a wide coverage of pension services and
other social security services in Tanzania, NSSF has established NSSF Wavuvi
Scheme or Fisherman Scheme.
“This
special social security service will attract potential members from fishing
sector across Tanzania and who depend fishing as their daily income generating
activity” she reveals.
NSSF
has also established Wakulima Scheme a new social security service targeting to
cover the farming sector. In recognizing potentials and opportunities available
in Tanzania’s mining sector the NSSF has initiated a scheme targeting to
benefit small scale miners across the country
“Established
as “Madini Scheme,” this social security service is set to attract potential
members from the mining sector across Tanzania and who depend small scale
mining as their source of income and bread earner,” explained Eunice.
Eunice
called farmers, wavuvi, artisanal miners and the general members of the public
to visit the NSSF BOOT during the 40th Dar Es Salaam International
Trade Fair (DITF) which is taking place at the Mwalimu J.K.Nyerere Trade Fair
Grounds so as they can join with NSSF innovative schemes to enable them members
and their families to enjoy free medical treatment services provided by the
NSSF through this scheme as an initiative aiming to create healthy families for
optimum productivity.
“Other
benefits a member will enjoy are such as invalid pension, old age pension,survivors
pension and maternity benefit, employment injury and occupational diseases,
funeral grant, including soft loans for fishing inputs, agro-inputs and for
fishing inputs, school fees for members children and other development
activities,” Eunice reveals.
According
to Eunice, NSSF Tanzania has over the years, won numerous awards in the
categories of best overall exhibitor, best in the high quality displays sector,
most innovative exhibitor as well as
best customer care at
the Dar Es Salaam International Trade fair (DITF).
NSSF is also ISO 9001:2008 Certification pension scheme in Tanzania.
