German funds borehole for remote Dar primary school

German organisation, Time to Help, in collaboration with Tanzania’s ISHIK Medical and Education Foundation yesterday handed over a borehole to a school on the outskirt of Dar es Salaam.

The borehole was drilled at the cost of USD 5 000 and handed over to the Chamanzi Primary School that serves some 5800 pupils.

The school is reported to have, over the years, suffered dire water shortage related problems that among other things forced the pupils to fetch water from nearby households severely affecting their classroom performance.

Speaking at the handover of the borehole, a member of Time to Help, Albrecht Bucher, said they were motivated to help the school in an effort to make life easier for the pupils allowing them to focus on their education.

“There is need to help them access clean and safe water to safeguard them from contracting waterborne diseases,” Bucher added.

Chamanzi Primary School Assistant Head Teacher, Omary Njimbila expressed his appreciation for the organisations help.

“We are really glad that this problem is now over…” he said”…we can now get enough safe and clean water to cater for all the pupils,” he added.
The borehole has a depth of 80 meters and its water is safe for drinking and water systems have been connected to toilets and taps.
