Dar gears up for tourism and insurance workshop

The Automobile Association of Tanzania, AAT will play host to international workshop for tourism and insurance workshop that gets underway in Dar es Salaam on Monday.

The AAT chief executive officer Yusuf Ghor confirmed of the workshop’s existence that has already attracted stakeholders in the said business activities from all over the continent.

Ghor said the workshop has been jointly organised by the Federation of International Automobiles (FIA) in association with FIA African Council For Touring and Automobile (FIA ACTA) and AA South Africa.

Participants from Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Belgium, Zimbabwe and Botswana will attend the two-day workshop.

This is in reference to FIA’s directive to promote international tourism using FIA/AA clubs worldwide which has a membership fleet of 60,million.

The workshop will be graced by AAT President Nizar Jivani who is also the Vice-Chairman of FIA ACTA clubs of Africa.

FIA Europe/Africa Director General, Jacob Bangsgaard is also expected to attend the workshop where a paper on tourism will be presented by Director of Tourism Mr. Ebrahim Mussa on Tanzania Land of Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar and Serengeti to promote Tanzania as a tourist destination.

The opening session will also be attended by SACP Mohamed Mpinga, who is the Tanzania traffic police commanding officer.

Mpinga is expected to receive 50 motorcycles (Boda Boda) riders among 1,750 trained by FIA/AAT to appreciate the role played by the sponsors to change their lives through safety driving.

Besides tourism and insurance as head topics during the workshop, road safety measures and improvement is a substantial issue to be addressed in curbing road fatalities.
 
Emphasis has been underlined on motorcycles and school children who are highly vulnerable.

The Ilala district’s Boda Boda Riders Taxi Association’s chairman and secretary General respectively Mr. Michael Roso and Isiri Anthony are also expected to attend the function.

On the same day FIA UN Global Road Safety week programme will be launched at New Mbezi Primary school whereby FIA/AAT are jointly providing reflective jackets, stop and go sign boards, erection of signboard and painting of New Zebra crossing as part of FIA-UN activity to “Catch Them Young” aimed for children to understand road safety issues at a tender age to save Lives.

For two days from May 7 the same programme will be extended to 18 selected schools in Dar es Salaam and one in Tanga.
